The first thing I noticed about this new Spiderman offering from Activision and Treyarch is its stunning visuals. The graphics in this game are great and eclipse all previous Spiderman games, and are among the best I have seen lately. The worst I can say about this game's graphics is that they don't make full use of the Xbox's hardware as Spiderman's core is merely a port, but they are still above par.
The tutorial for this game is actually fun for a change. The voice of your trainer is none other than Bruce Campbell, of Evil Dead fame, who has a cameo in the Spiderman movie. Bruce also provides hints throughout the game. The tutorial is quick, and gives you plenty of tools to start playing the game.
Actually playing the game is the tricky part. From the first level the terrible camera makes playing this game a chore sometimes. The gameplay is simple to pick up and fun, the camera just really bites. The camera doesn't ruin the game, but it comes close. Combat is fun and Treyarch included many cool moves for Spidey to kick some butt with, but some of the combo's may be a bit hard for those that aren't well versed in fighting games like Dead or Alive to pull off.
Like some of you may have heard in other reviews, the indoor levels are not as fun as the outdoor levels. I found myself eventually treating the indoor levels like work, trying to get to the next outdoor level. The aerial combat of the outdoor levels is great, along with the web slinging. Some of the outdoor levels are so expansive I got lost in them. The only question I have is, "Why can't I touch the ground?" You can't touch the ground in any of the outdoor levels.
Spiderman Bowling is a pretty fun unlockable extra included in this game. It's decently difficult to unlock though. Spiderman: The Movie is overall a good game, except for the camera, and I would recommend that anyone who is a Spidey fan or played the earlier games on the Playstation and/or the Dreamcast pick up this game, or at least rent it.
