Page 2 of 2 Brute Force ReviewdPublished by: Microsoft Game Studios Developed by: Digital Anvil Genre: Third-Person Action Brute Force is a 3rd Person Shooter, and for all of you fans of Halo out there, it is nothing like it other than the fact that it is a sci-fi shooter. The two are very different games. Controls can be difficult at times. After hours of gameplay I still find myself pushing the wrong buttons, such as using a med kit instead of using the characters special ability. Other than little things like that, the game controls fine. For your first campaign mission, it is basically a tutorial for controls so you shouldn't have much of a problem unless you jump straight into deathmatch. Brute Force lacks a large amount of multiplayer options; in fact it only has three - Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, and Co-op. During Co-op you can have up to 4 players with you, system link compatible, and have a friend or three jumps in at anytime and leave at anytime. No confusion, simple and easy, just press start. Deathmatch contains quite a few maps, but not an enormous amount. All fairly large but I suggest playing through some campaign before going into deathmatch. Campaign Mode/Co-op puts you, and friends if wanted, into a squad of four. You do not start out with all four characters; you will meet up with them as you play through. Each are unique in their own way. While in game, it is both easy to give commands and switch characters. Just hold up on the D-pad in the direction of the character you want to give orders to and a list will come up or simply just press it, instead of holding, and it will switch you to that character. Your character can hold up to 2 guns at a time, and can switch them anytime by pressing Y or pick on up off the ground by holding X. Types of weapons very from snipers, shotguns, laser guns, to machine guns. Although some characters cannot use certain ones, it just means that another member of your party can. There are not a large amount of different enemies, without counting bosses, so you will see a lot of the same ones in many different levels, Such as mutants and priests. Cut Scenes in this game can be amazing. They very from getting information on your next mission to watching all out action as Flint snipes off an enemies head or witness the stealth of Hawk as she carries out a mission. They are very detailed and run very clear. In game is done nicely although I have seen some complain. Character models are detailed. You see the weapons get placed on what looks like hooks on their backs with detailed clothing on. Some other pluses for this are the gun details and explosions, even the gas bombs. Environments are large; Details have really been put in. Watch the fire come out of the pit of lava, run through the tall grass and notice the amazing details put into this. They must have put in some extra time into these little things from all the time they got from delay after delay. Overall, I would say they have done a good job with how the game looks. There is no custom soundtrack in this game which disappointed quite a few seeing how the background music may not be to your liking. Sound effects are down good and players voices but they should have had some better lines written. Lines like,"Come, so I can destroy you" and "Alien DooDad" should have been written to something else. There are a lot of lines like that in this game. Some funny, some just stupid, but then again everyone has their own sense of humor. Leaving the scene of cheesy lines, Monsters yell as they are being shot down and explosions roar loud as you throw a grenade into a flock of enemies. Sound was done write on these aspects, to bad just not on the others said above but still, the good outweighs the bad. With a good group of friends, the fun will last for a long time! Grab a friend and head into some co-op. "accidentally" kill your roommate and laugh as he gets pissed, although you shouldn't if you're looking to beat the level but oh well, personal experience. I myself find more fun in Co-op but Downloadable content can fix that for deathmatch. So overall, this is a must buy title for you as long as you have a group of friends and you are a fan of shooters.
