Xbox 360 Continues To Embarrass Sony In Japan

The Xbox 360 has now outsold the PS3 for two weeks running in Japan. Now once you've recovered from the shock, read that first sentence again. The 360 has beat the PS3 two weeks in a row in Sony's own back yard. Continued...

According to the latest figures from Media Create, the Microsoft Xbox 360 has outsold the rival Sony PlayStation 3 in Japan two weeks running, marking a sharp contrast in the country where the 360 has constantly lagged very far behind in sales.

The figures show Microsoft selling 13,777 units for the week ending September 21st with Sony only selling 8,156 units for the same period.

Obviously you can attribute this surprise increase in sales to the release of Japanese-style RPGs and the recent price-cut. Nintendo managed to get it's Wii back in front of the 360 in Japan though. And the handheld DS continues to top the list of consoles.

Yet the ps3 continues to beat the 360 in sales in north america....Its own backyard....Embarrassed?

I'm glad you're paying attention. The 360 is beginning to benefit from what the PS3 did a year ago. The 360 saturated the US market. That means it sold most of what it would already. So the PS3 started selling in the US. Now the reverse is happening in Japan. The 360 is selling in place of the PS3. The only sad thing is the 360 made headway faster and in an unfriendly market. The PS3 making headway in the US isn't a big deal as it's an established brand name. However, the reverse happening in Japan; a place where the consumer shunned the Xbox only 3 years ago is amazing. Please, for the last time, get a degree in something like business or marketing and then come back. We'll be here. ;)
