Gears of War 2 won't only be a huge title when it comes to sales numbers. The game will bring a first to the Xbox 360. Get ready for linked achievements in game sequels. Compelte details follow:
Gears of War 2 may have not really excited everyone at E3, but there's no doubt that it's going to be a great game that will sell in huge numbers when it lands later this year—especially with those who were fans of the original.
Hoping to please the fans, Epic has discussed a few neat inclusions that will lure buyers, including linked achievements and a $130 "Legendary"-like edition of the game. The new linked achievements will be a first for the Xbox 360. Epic has decided to reward players who play Gears of War 2 and also played Gears of War.
Some unlockables in the second game will be accessible only to those who have achievements from the first game. For example, killing the last boss in Gears of War and completing the final act would unlock that boss as a playable character in Gears of War 2. As for the special editions of the game, there will be two options in addition to the standalone title. The standard Collector's Edition includes a Steel DVD case with the typical "Making Of" footage, design galleries with audio commentary, and promotional videos for the game; a "Keepsake Photo" of Dominic and Maria; and an Xbox Live code to unlock a gold-plated Lancer Assault Rifle for online play. The $130 "Legendary"-like edition of the game will apparently include all of the aforementioned contents as well as a replica Lancer.
The "Legendary" bundle hasn't been confirmed by Microsoft yet, so you may want to hold off on that preorder for a little longer—especially considering the way the price went down on the "limited" edition version of Halo 3. This three SKU model seems to be Microsoft's favorite new weapon for its big, exclusive releases.
